Sorry about no posts last week. Between my internet being cut again and being at the studio, I wasn’t able to update anything. I should be back to daily updates from here, though.
Here’s some stuff I’ve been thoroughly enjoying lately:
Writing new songs in Logic has consumed the majority of my free time, (as well as slightly spilling onto some work time.) I’ve only known the program for around a month, and I’ve already got 12 songs fleshed out, with tons more to come. It’s opened up a whole new world of obsessive writing for me. Creative explosion. It’s not just getting a new set of tools, it’s like getting a whole new multi-car garage jam-packed with top-of-the-line machinery and a huge staff of robots to command.
I’ve also been drawing more often than usual lately, trying to get some ‘exercise’ in that department, and enjoying it. I wish I had more time/drive to draw. Maybe I just need to place myself in a boring situation with a pen and paper, because back at TCJC (as well as throughout High School) pretty much all I would do is draw all day long during class. I often get the urge to draw, but don’t always follow up on it. Trying to change that.
Exo-Squad: Season One. FINALLY, Exo-Squad got some DVD Love. Or, any love in general. Exo-Squad is the most underrated cartoon series ever. It’s so well made, well-designed and full of great writing, especially for a cartoon tied to a toy series. You’d never even know the toys exist. In fact, most people don’t. I’m halfway through Season One, and surprised at how well it has aged. I thought I might have possibly been wearing rose-tinted glasses as time has passed, but it really is a great series. I’m just crossing my fingers that it sells decently and there are followup releases.
Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2 is more of the same (DWG1 has been a guilty pleasure for quite some time), but more of the same with prettier graphics, lots of new characters and series coverered, and other additions like GIANT robots! It’s my new favorite pick-up-and-play-for-twenty-minutes game! Currently working through the Zeta Gundam storyline…
Eminem’s Relapse is just as good as I was hoping it would be. After thoroughly enjoying his last two albums, I was looking forward to this one, and it doesn’t disappoint. I’m not a big rap fan at all, but there’s something about that combination of lyrics, voice, and (most significantly) Dr. Dre’s production that blows me away every time. Favorites: Beautiful, 3am, Same Old Song and Dance and Underground. The singles, minus 3am, are unsurprisingly the lamest tracks on the disc, so don’t judge the album if you’ve only heard those.
Luna Sea and Buck-Tick are both Japanese rock bands that have been on my radar for quite awhile (I’ve owned a couple of albums by each), but I’ve only recently dug deeper into their respective catalogs (torrenting entire discographies for the win) and I had no idea how incredible either really were. The consistency of quality and versatility is inspiring. Both bands have a similar history of starting out in the late 80’s / early 90’s as Visual Kei (think gothic glam-rock) bands and quickly phasing out of it, exploring a wide array genres throughout their careers. Both bands have rapidly become top favorites of mine. Buck-Tick alone shot up to my #1 played artist on Last.fm in just a months’ time. I’m thinking about posting up a sampler, if anyone’s interested.
After checking out and loving the Reno 911 movie over a year ago, I’ve recently started Tivo-ing the actual show. Why I’ve ignored it for all this time is a mystery, because it’s freaking NON-STOP FUNNY.
